Common namePogonantha. Family Heliconiaceae (Heliconia family). Overview Heliconia pogonantha is a hybrid, growing up to 10' - 25' tall. Pogonantha blooms all year and peaks in Januari and Februari. Bracts 15 - 40, red, pink at base and some with cream area on proximal lip. Tip becoming black with age. Rachis red, some pink or pink cream. Ovary white or cream. Pedicel white or cream. Hardiness USDA zone 9B - 11. Propagation Rhizomes. Culture Needs full sun to 40% shade; protect from low temperature. Can be kept indoors in a large container, outdoors or in the green house. |
